American Auto Trail-Bankhead Highway (Forrest City to Lehi AR)
Once a stump-studded path wandering through the wilderness from the Mississippi River, the Memphis-Little Rock Road (Military Road) is now among the most heavily traveled corridors in Arkansas. This travel route follows U.S. Highway 70 from Forrest City on the western slope of Crowley Ridge, across the ridge into the Arkansas Delta, to the junction at Lehi, outside West Memphis. The route roughly parallels the aforementioned Military Road, created in the 1820s, and the Memphis & Little Rock Railroad, build in the 1850s and 1860s.
