About Caddo Publications USA

Historic Highway Guides is a website of Caddo Publications USA.

Caddo Publications USA was begun in 2000 with the publication of Roads Less Traveled, a traditional paperback historical guide book to the Southeastern United States which was based on the original American Guides of the 1930’s and 40’s.  The original guides were updated with current directional information and highway designations.

In 2003, Roads Less Traveled was followed by American Trails Revisited, a themed revision of the American Guides, which followed prominent frontier trails of the American West (Oregon, California, Santa Fe, Old Spanish, and the Butterfield Overland).

Beginning in 2006, Caddo Publications USA began on the expansive American Auto Trail Series Project.  This project will develop guides for all regions of the country, with a goal of having comprehensive guides by region available by the end of 2011.   The Slow Travels Series will present State guides containing a collection of highways, some of which may or may not be available in the American Auto Trails series.  Your support is appreciated, and any purchases go to the continued development of the project.

  1. Hi! I really like your all’s YouTube videos! I am wondering if you all are planning on covering more of the Pike’s Peak Ocean-to-Ocean Highway? There is a stretch of that autotrail in Missouri, that runs from West of Utica, MO, to Cameron, MO, passing through Mooresville, MO, Breckenridge, MO, Nettleton, MO & Hamilton, MO, along the way. This section is several miles long & is also Old US 36. There are also some other smaller sections of this autotrail in Missouri, as well. The trail parallels, or follows, US 36 in Missouri. I have done some of my own research of the Pike’s Peak Ocean-to-Ocean Highway, using volume 5 of the 1918 Official Automobile Blue Book & have mapped it out, based on the directions given in the book as best as I could, on Google Maps. My map can be found here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1dIZQ0EY6vqCMvrngnfOoGxIvWP9qg6VS&usp=sharing
Somebody else did do some YouTube videos about it, years ago, however they didn’t give much historical information & didn’t seem to know the roads history of being the Pike’s Peak Ocean-to-Ocean Highway. One of their YouTube videos can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAwWocubdFc
Please stay safe & thank you.

    1. Thank you for the content suggestion. We will be doing much more videos throughout Missouri in the future. A trip up to Missouri, Iowa, and western Illinois is currently on our 2021 bucket list.

  2. Hello, I am planning a trip from Globe, Arizona to Atlantic Beach, North Carolina along US Highway 70 for my 70th birthday. I am trying to find out as much information as possible about that Highway and interesting spots along the way. Is all your information only on Kindle? Is anything new coming out in the next year? Do you have any suggestions? Thank you, Rebecca
