In this video, explore the history of southern Louisiana through 30 miles of the Mississippi River Scenic Highway as it snakes along the west side of the Mississippi River levee. Louisiana Highway 18 is our host from Luling to Wallace. Beginning with the early Native-Americans and French explorer, the land includes settlements of the Germans, Acadians, French, and Spanish in the 1700s. The development of plantation society, growth of slavery, and the outbreak of the American Civil War alter the landscape physically, economically, and culturally.
