Thorsby Historical Preservation Committee

Thorsby, Alabama’s Swedish Founder, Theodore Torkel Thorson, arrived in Central Alabama during the Mid-1890’s searching for the perfect location to establish a town.  He found such a place half-way between Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama and declared it to be a “Utopia”!  Thorsby was incorporated in 1901 and was settled by Swedes, Norwegians, Finns and Danes, as well as some other nationalities.  Today, the town boasts a population of 2,000+ and is proud of its heritage.

The Thorsby Historical Preservation Committee meets every 4th Monday 6:30pm @ Thorsby United Methodist Church on Iowa Ave. Thorsby, AL
